Vodka with Ramgopal Varma Book

'Vodka With Varma' In Kannada

Ram Gopal Varma’s films and interviews have been creating impact on many from many years in good or bad way. Hence many say that he can be either loved or hated but cannot be ignored. These days, his thoughts and philosophy towards life have begun grabbing the attention. There are also those who consider this eccentric genius as the inspiration.

Sometime ago, RGV had written a book on himself titled ‘Naa Ishtam’ and this was followed by another book titled ‘Vodka With Varma’ written by Film Critic turned Lyricist Sira Sri. Both books became roaring hits among readers and now the time has come for the duo to get into other languages as well. Popular translator and cartoonist Srujan has taken the initiative and translated both the books into Kannada.

Srujan says, “Both the books are due for release and the event will happen in a few weeks in Bangalore. The Kannada versions are titled as ‘Nannista’ and ‘Vodka With Varma’. Icing on the cake is Kannada star Sudeep wrote special article for ‘Nannishta’.”

So, the best sellers on Telugu book stands from the last 3 years are going to entertain Kannada readers shortly.

Miss Lovely retains its steamy content with only 4 Censor cuts...

Niharika Singh from Miss Lovely
Miss Lovely retains its steamy content with only 4 Censor cuts...

The much awaited internationally acclaimed and controversial, Miss Lovely starring Nawazuddin Siddique and former Miss India Niharika Singh, retains it steamy and juicy content as the Censor Board has passed it with only 4 cuts. Censorship knife has been used in a scene where a woman is being forcefully undressed and a woman is walking bare naked. The two scenes exposing objectionable body parts of a woman have been blurred in the final cut of the movie.

The winner at MAMI 2012 is set in the sleazy C-grade film industry in 1980s' Mumbai and has been passed with an "Adult" by the Indian Censor Board with a mere 4 cuts instead of the originally proposed 157 cuts which have been revised over the course of one year.

Ashim Ahluwalia's award-winning directorial debut film is high on racy sexual content unlike ever seen before in Indian cinema.  A source from the film says, "Earlier, the Censor Board objected to the foul language and sexual content in the movie but they have been mature, fair, and kind enough to reduce it to just four blurred scenes having realized that none of the provocative content is gratuitous. There is enough steam in the gritty film to stay true to its subject and attract audiences."

Ahluwalia is mighty pleased with this development and applauds the Censor Board. He says, "When I made Miss Lovely I never expected a release in India. Most of all I didn't believe that the Censor Board would allow a film with so much adult content through. I'm happy to have been eventually proved wrong. The way that the Board treated the film, allowing me to give them my point of view and accepting those arguments - has been amazing and very different from the Censor Board that I had imagined. With very few changes to the adult content, they have given the film a lot of respect. I hope that this direction continues and that we will see more different adult-themed films in our cinemas."

Distributor Sunny Khanna of White Lion Entertainment expressed his happiness by saying, "A movie which has backdrop of the Bollywood C-grade industry naturally lends itself to an 'Adult' rating. What is the fun in such films don't get an 'Adult' Certificate?! The film has several integral scenes which we thought would be deleted due to their bold content but we are glad that the Censor board saw the film in the right perspective. We are very happy and relieved with just 4 cuts in all."

Distributor B.L. Gautam of Easel Films is pleased with the response to the movie. He says, "The youth is a major part of our target audience and the content will appeal to them. Miss Lovely adds a new genre to Indian cinema as it unapologetic-ally adult yet honest. All of our distributors are going with many more screens than we assumed. The support from the trade is overwhelming. I can safely say that adult means mature in today's age and sex is no longer dirty."

Miss Lovely has a wide release in India on January 17, 2014 and will release in the US in March, 2014.

PLOT: Miss Lovely is a 2012 Indian drama film directed by Ashim Ahluwalia and set in the criminal depths of Mumbai's C-grade (horror and porn film) industry. Ahluwalia's debut feature follows the story of the Duggal brothers who produce sleazy sex-horror films in the mid-1980s. The plot explores the intense and mutually destructive relationship between younger sibling Sonu Duggal, played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and his elder brother, Vicky (Anil George). Sonu finds himself drawn to a mysterious young woman named Pinky (Niharika Singh) eventually leading to his downfall.
